First piece of baby furniture!!

Yesterday James and I went and picked up our first piece of furniture for the baby's room! Bill and Rosanne Powell gave us a changing table/dresser that their little ones used! We are so excited! I am contemplating just using it as a dresser (not putting a pad on top). It has 3 dresser-sized drawers, one small drawer and a cabinet with shelving. We are very thankful for the Powell's generosity!

In other news, James and I are celebrating our 3-year anniversary today! At this time three years ago, we were saying our vows (and sweating to death...outside wedding at the end of July = sweltering). I can't say enough how blessed I am to have James as my husband. He truly is a gift from God.

It's official...

...I'm an old married lady. This is evidenced by the fact that I am insanely excited about the purchase we made today. What did we buy, you ask? A new VACUUM CLEANER!!! YAHOO!! James keeps looking at me like I'm nuts because I can't stop talking about it and smiling nonstop. You guys just don't understand how much I DETESTED our old vacuum...it was halfway broken, so you had to stand bent over, holding onto the cord a certain way for it to work. Anyhoo, if anyone needs to get in touch with me today, I won't hear the phone ring because I'll be spending quality time with my new best friend.

We're Baaack

We made it back from the beach safe and sound at about 8:00 last night. Whew! It's good to be home. Although I've enjoyed being able to hang out at the coast the past two weekends, I'm ready to be home, clean the house, go to my church on Sunday, catch up with people.

Mom and I rode down on Thursday evening before anyone else. We had such a good time on the way down...nonstop chatting. We had dinner at my favorite pizza place and then hung out. Friday we went to the beach (I didn't really want to get in the water...two shark attacks nearby...so I nearly sweated to death) for a couple of hours and then went home for showers and naps. Ronnie came down Friday evening and James came down Saturday evening.

Saturday, mom and I went to the neighborhood next to ours and passed out flyers inviting folks to our neighborhood's worship service on Sunday (for those of you that don't know, Ronnie is leading a time of worship down by the water every Sunday morning...if you're in the Emerald Isle area, you should check it out). We had about 35 people total, which is the most we've had yet - so that was definitely cool. No thanks to me, though. I clammed up when we were passing out the flyers...I have no idea what was wrong with me!

Anyway, Ronnie left Sunday evening and mom, James and I hung out Monday and then she left us also. We went to dinner at a great place in Beaufort and then walked the waterfront for a while (and got attacked by mutant mosquitos...I have like 10 bites, no exaggeration).

Today's visit

I know I said I'd post again soon, but I bet you didn't think it would be THIS soon! Just got back from the doctor (nurse practitioner, actually) and things look good! I somehow LOST a 1/2 pound, even though I can't fathom how that is possible given the fact that I'm eating everything in sight these days. I got to hear the heartbeat again...I don't think that will ever cease to amaze me. Baby Mason didn't particularly like being bothered with the dopplar this morning - he (I'm calling baby he to avoid always having to do the whole he/she thing) kicked the dopplar away over and over again. He's obviously taking after his mommy with his cloudy morning disposition.

My next appointment is August 16th and I'll have my ultrasound! Can't wait!!

I hope everyone has a great weekend! I'm off to the beach til' Tuesday!

Check-up tomorrow

So - in an effort to keep up with the Jones' (or more specifically the Dowd's, Pittman's, and other faithful mom-bloggers), I've decided to grace the blogspot world with my presence. This is harder than it looks, but I'm sure you guys already know that. I don't have any cute pictures to put up yet (actually, even if I did, I'm not sure how to post them) and I'm not nearly as witty as the rest of you, but we'll give it a whirl.

James and I have been pretty busy. We just got back from Myrtle Beach Tuesday...his company sent him to a conference and very graciously allowed me to tag along. Not to the conference...only to the super luxurious Hilton resort where I busied myself laying by the pool, eating chicken tenders (very healthy choice) and reading a good Ted Dekker book. We also got to dress up for a fancy dinner that a neighboring country club held...I even sported my first ever maternity dress!

However, right before we left the hotel to go to said dinner party, I had a minor meltdown when I flipped over the magnified make-up mirror that the Hilton provides and noticed that I'm turning into a gorilla. Now, I've heard about morning sickness, acne, back pain, and crying spells...but growing a full beard?? This can't be happening. Of course, the always sympathetic James laughed out loud before deeming my new facial hair "cute". Puppies are cute. Babies are cute. The extra tiny gummy bear that finds it's way into every bag is cute. An Abe Lincoln beard on your pregnant wife that is trying very hard to look radiant for your co-workers is NOT cute. Ahh, the joys of pregnancy.

In all honesty, hitting the 2nd trimester has been fantastic. I feel 100% better...more energy, less gagging, appetite back to normal. And I've relaxed some and actually allowed myself to get excited. Because of the miscarriage, I was very tense at first, to say the least. But God is so good...He patiently listened to all of my fears and then reminded me, ever so gently, that He is in control of not only my future, but the future of this child. Instead of rejoicing in the miracle of the pregnancy, I was consumed with fear, which was sinful. So, even though I still have moments of fear and doubt, I praise our Father for blessing us with this precious gift. He is so good!!

I officially hit the 17 week mark tomorrow and head in for a check-up. Can't wait to hear that sweet heartbeat again! That's the best sound ever, no doubt about it. Then, I'm having lunch with my brother and heading back down to the beach with mom. Ronnie is joining us Friday (he'll preach Sunday) and then James is joining us Saturday night when he gets off work. We'll come back Tuesday and hopefully I'll have some pictures to share (if I can figure out how to post them)!

Okay, I'm finally done. Sorry this was so long...first time jitters made me ramble.
